Bodhya emerged from a simple observation: Bihar has talented students, but they lack access to tech opportunities and networks that students in metros take for granted.
Who we bring together
Bodhya is a community-driven employment initiative. The work is convening three groups that rarely meet in Bihar, then turning that into jobs for students.
FOSS communities
Bodhya is built in the open, on open source values — no gatekeeping, no geography. Contributing is how students get seen.
Mentors and employers
Professionals across India who volunteer their time — reviewing work, answering questions, and opening doors to internships and jobs.
Colleges and educators
Teachers and campuses across the state who host the workshops, run the clubs, and reach students where they already are.
The story
Bodhya was created as a collective response to that gap. It brings together FOSS communities, industry professionals, and local educators to help students in Bihar build visibility, work on real-world open source projects, and access internships and jobs without having to leave home.
Starting January 2026, Bodhya is being built full-time as a community initiative — supported by FOSS United's ecosystem, volunteer mentors from across India, and students who are already proving that world-class tech talent exists in Bihar when given the right opportunities.

Means “worthy of knowledge” or “capable of being awakened.” It reflects our belief that every student has potential — they just need the right spark and opportunity.
Founder
Vishal is using technology to chip away at a few social problems in Bihar. He is also a director on the board at FOSS United, which he has been part of since its early days — experience that shapes how Bodhya is built: in the open, with communities rather than for them.
Most of his work happens close to the ground: teaching in classrooms in West Champaran, running FOSS United Bihar across the state's engineering colleges, and writing the software those programmes depend on.
